What's different about your school and why should I take my classes from you?
Glad you asked! There are a lot of differences between our school
and others. When you take a Howard Perry and Walston real estate course,
you will receive the very best instruction available. Our graduates score
well above average on state board examinations. Unlike some schools, most
of our instructors teach full time and typically have many years of teaching
experience. We offer more classes than any other private real estate
school in the Triangle … combined! Classes are taught days, evenings, and
weekends, and new classes are offered year-round. When you come to our
school you will be able to take advantage of regularly scheduled math and state
board review courses, a modern computer test learning center, award winning
learning assistance programs (including Tom Mangum’s “Guaranteed to Pass” audio
tapes and CDs), and professional workbooks specially designed to help you learn
faster.

As the largest private real estate school in the Triangle, we
also offer a variety of designations, certifications, and CE courses
year-round, including: Accredited Buyer Representative Designation (ABR),
Senior Housing Specialist Certification, Accredited Real Estate Professional
(AREP), and Electronic Real Estate Professional (E-REP). In addition, we
are the only Triangle Real Estate School approved by the Realtors Land
Institute. Plus, we are one of less than 40 real estate schools
nationally that are members of the prestigious RealtyU network of
educators.

Are
there any additional study aids to help me pass?
We offer some of the best study guides in the industry. Besides

What if I don't
pass? What do I do then?
Most students pass if they follow all of our guidelines, but if you don't,
we allow each student one re-test in each course. Please note that State rules
dictate that all re-tests must be also completed no later than thirty days
following the last class meeting. If you are not able to pass the test(s)
within ninety days you can re-enroll for an administrative fee of $99 for a
period up to six months following your first course. After this six-month
period, you are required to pay full tuition minus the cost of books unless the
textbook has changed.

How many tests are there and how long do I have to take it after the class is
over?
There is one final exam in each of the Provisional Broker and Broker
courses, although the Brokers Course does have some additional exercises that
must be completed as well. Minimum passing score is 75% and all tests are
multiple-choice format. All final exams, including make-up, must be taken
no later than ninety (90) days from the last class meeting. No exceptions
are allowed under the NC State licensing rules.

What do I need to do to maximize my opportunity to pass the exam the first
time?
Attend all of your class sessions and be prepared to participate and work
hard. We also offer practice exam questions and both math and general
review classes. Ask for a schedule. The review classes are offered
to our students at no additional charge (regular price: $99).

Is there a lot of outside
work?
What you get out of a class is relative to the effort you put in to
it. Just sitting in class listening and taking notes is not sufficient to
pass the state exam. We offer our students a variety of study aids such
as “Guaranteed To Pass”, a ten hour review available on tapes or CDs, as well
as software containing over 1300 sample test questions that you can practice at
our computer study area or purchase to take home.

I haven't been to school in many years. Am I going to be able to handle a
real estate course?
Of course you can handle it! In fact, most of your classmates
probably feel the same way that you do. Remember, our instructors are
used to having students that fit this class into their busy schedules.
That’s why we offer so many classes in different time offerings. Work
hard, do your homework and you can do it!!

My work schedule makes it difficult for me to go to school. What if I
have to miss class? How many classes can I miss and still take the exam?
First, Howard Perry and Walston offers more pre-licensing classes in
the area than all other private real estate schools… combined! We have
classes to fit most schedules. Secondly, we realize that most busy
students occasionally have to miss a class. The great thing is we offer
enough classes that you should have no trouble auditing another class, even if
its another instructor. As for how many classes you can miss and still
qualify to take the exam, you must attend 80% of all scheduled classes.
Please note that there are no excuses or unexcused absences.

I'm
thinking of signing up with a friend. Is there a special rate available
if both of us sign up together?
Many students find it wise to attend with someone they can study
with. At the Howard Perry and Walston Real Estate School, we’ll give both
of you $20 off the cost of the Broker Pre-Licensing Course tuition when you
sign up with a friend. (Sorry, no such savings apply to the Broker
Course.) The only requirement for this savings is that you must both
pre-register together. This $20 savings is not applicable to re-take
fees, Broker Courses and cannot be used in conjunction with any other offers.

Is there any financial assistance available? Are you approved for VA
educational benefits?
At this time we do not have financial assistance and we are not approved
for VA assistance programs. We do, however, accept Master Card and Visa
as payment.
What
do I need to do to prepare for my first class?
We recommend to all of our students to pre-register for each class.
Pre-registration allows you to pick up your book before the class starts and it
also helps you to avoid the disappointment of not getting in your class choice
because it is full. You are also advised to read the first two chapters
in your textbook before the first class. Please note, on class day you
need to arrive 15 to 20 minutes early to complete final paperwork and pay any
balance due.
Do I need
to bring anything to my first class?
Don’t forget to bring pens, paper a calculator and a highlighter.
Dress casually and comfortably. You may also want to bring a sweater in
case the room is too cool for you.

What is the refund policy?
If the Registrar receives written notice of the student's intent to
withdraw from a course at least one week prior to the scheduled beginning date
of the course for which enrolled, all money deposited with the School will be
returned in full, provided that any materials issued are returned unused.
There shall be no refunds of student fees or materials after the student starts
the class.

What is the
inclement weather policy?
Our inclement weather policy tends to follow the cancellation policy of the
local community colleges. For example, if Wake Technical Community
College is closed then we will be closed for our Wake County
classes. Please pay close attention to cancellations, day classes are
usually announced separately from night classes. Durham classes will
follow the same pattern but it is based on Durham Technical Community College
schedules. Cary High School classes are cancelled if the Cary High School
is closed. Weekend classes will receive instructions from their
instructor.
